School Board Candidates Talk about Year-Round Schooling:
Candidate Henry Lane supports the issue of year-round schooling:
· “There is a changing tide when it comes to using trailers as classrooms,” he said. Year-round schooling will diminish the need for trailers.
· Year round schooling will help combat student overcrowding. “Year-round schooling would support a beneficial multi-tracking system of education that would reduce the number of students in daily attendance by 25%,” he said.
Board President Elton Fay thinks year-round schooling isn’t practical:
· Year round schooling would mean different schedules for different ages. “This community doesn’t want schools on totally different schedules,” he said.
· Year round schooling would be costly to local citizens. “What Mr. Lane fails to tell you is that if we are to avoid erecting additional buildings to save on construction costs, the cost of education our children would go up substantially,” he said.
Candidate Larry Dorman believed that year round schooling is costly: · “If money weren’t an issue, I’d build all the schools necessary,” he said.
